Category: Lamps and Light Fixtures
After a long move from NJ to AZ, we are settling nicely in our new home. We’ve decided to rent for at least a year to get a feel for Scottsdale. Purchasing a new home is a BIG step, right? Plus, I LOVE looking at real estate and want to do this for a LONG time before buying. So far we are loving our rental home. It is small, but located on a 1 acre lot with all kinds of beautiful cacti, fruit trees, & brush/bushes.
I haven’t lived in a rental since my 20s, so I am not sure how much I should spend on updates/changes. The first thing I’d love to do is add some new light fixtures. There are 3 rooms that I am currently shopping for new light fixtures: the Eating Area/Kitchen, Master Bedroom, & Dining Room.
Here are a few Pendant Light Fixtures that I’m considering. I feel like I should be on a budget since this is a rental home, but I do LOVE some of those more expensive lights!

I was browsing flush mount lights again last night. I am having a really hard time making a decision. Nothing very affordable is standing out but I did find this idea that I thought was interesting. In the inspiration picture you see the Troy Lighting Sausalito Transitional Flush Mount Ceiling Light ($272!)
Lowes has a version of this light called the allen + roth Brushed Nickel Flush Mount. It is a bit bigger, but has a very similar look and it is on sale for only $22.25!
Lamps Plus also sells a version of this light called the Sauzario 12 1/4″ Wide Ceiling Light. Their’s is $272.91.
P.S. the light will go in my entryway
UPDATE I decided to buy the light fixture. I ordered it from the Lowes website for in store pickup. Total= $23.81 with tax. It was too good of a deal to pass up! I’ll post more pics as soon as we hang it.
I’ve been wanting to replace our ugly entryway and hallway lights for years, & I am finally making an effort to do so. Because this is not our forever home (& we may be moving sooner vs. later), I am hesitant to spend over $150 on each light.
I really do not love flush mount ceiling lights in the entryway, but our ceiling is not high enough to pick out a cool pendant lamp or chandelier. My initial thought at the front door was to try the West Elm Contour Semi-Flush Fixture in White. It has a nice modern look for only $69. My only issue is that after taking some measurements, it might be too big for the space. We took a drive down to West Elm in Princeton over the weekend so that I could see it in person. Sooo frustrating –when we got there they said it was not carried in stores yet. Next time, I’ll be sure to call first!
2 other options are the Northwestern 2.25″ surface mount fixture in polished nickel or Glomar
Odeon light in Brushed Nickel.
What kind of ceiling fixtures are in your home? If you have a low ceiling entryway, did you stick with something simple or choose something with a bit of pizazz for the ceiling?
P.S. Find prices and links to all of these ceiling fixtures plus LOTS more on my Pinterest board, Flush Mount Light Fixtures
The bright upholstery on these dining room chairs caught my attention! What do you think? Would you try something like this in your dining room? I love how she matched them perfectly to the art work.
I recently discovered Turquoise Interior Design by Vanessa De Vargas & was so inspired! I absolutely LOVE the way she accessorizes- especially her lamp and console table choices. Her projects are really fun to look through. If I had to pick a favorite it would be Sherman Oaks 4. Check it out!

I’ve had my eye on the Glass Jug Table Lamp from West Elm for awhile. It has been hard for me to visualize it in a living room and so I’ve been looking for inspiration for weeks. I found this great living room in an apartment in SOHO via Air BNB. The lamp looks beautiful, not too oversized which is what I’ve been afraid of.
BTW, you can rent this apartment for $195/night. A BARGAIN in NYC!
I purchased these end tables for my living room and am trying to decide on a lamp style. I originally thought I wanted something that was glossy & white, but I’m having second thoughts! Which one do you like best? (they are all from West Elm!)
P.S. the table hardware will most likely be changed if that makes any difference.
i finally decided on the jupiter chandelier and it has arrived. here were a few other light fixtures i was debating for awhile. i wanted to hang it this weekend, but i am STILL not done with the craigslist table. it got cold fast and i am still working on paint coat #3.
this is a big new year goal for me…an actual table and chandelier in my dining room )
i’m looking for a new light to go in our dining room. here is the table (from craigslist)… i would like to add something a tad modern to hang over it. i am still undecided with the chairs. the table was $50 plus paint and i want to keep the project CHEAP! i would love a modern chair but i cannot find anything in my budget so i am thinking about finding chairs on Craigslist or Goodwill to mix with it.
the Jupiter Chandelier is 20% off at Z Gallerie and i think it is my favorite. i have a 10% off coupon at Pottery Barn and a 20% off coupon at West Elm. HMMMM….i need to sleep on this!
