Affordable Abstract Art

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

Abstract art is everywhere these days. I’ve been bookmarking favorites on Etsy, and I’m amazed at all of the interesting, inexpensive pieces. Thumbs up to these fabulous artists!

What do you think? Have you purchased abstract art from Etsy?

P.S. I’m all about big gold/brassy frames- any of these pieces would look amazing in some gold plating.

Sideboard Makeover

Speaking of sideboards for my dining room

I finally decided on something! Autumn Rollick is making over this fantastic piece for me. It has the square lines that I wanted, interesting lattice like detail which gives it a bit of “sweetness!”…and it is being painted in high gloss Benjamin Moore white to give it a bit more of a modern feel!

Here is a sneak peak:

(I cannot wait to show it off and fill it with pretty dinnerware when finished!)

My new piece kind of reminds me of this console: (isn’t this room corner fantastic?)

Gold Beaded Charger Plates

I just found these on Joss & Main. I purchased 2 sets of 4. I’m hoping they help dress up my IKEA dishes. FUN!

Paradise in Turks And Caicos

A little piece of paradise for you this morning. I’d like to spend the morning with a bloody mary and a stack full of Architectural Digests on the poolside bed in the last photo!

P.S. this property is 6 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, 7,250 square feet, and a bargain at 4.75 million! hmmm, i am almost tempted to buy a lottery ticket today. More here

Buffet Tables/Sideboards

Now that we have a new dining room table, I am anxious to entertain. I’ve been searching for a long buffet/sideboard piece to go along the wall. I want it to be LONG (over 70 inches), but it cannot be too deep (under 20 inches) since the room is not very wide. EVERYTHING I like is sooo expensive, BOO!

Here are a few pieces that I considered:

This piece is probably one of my favorites. It is a hollywood regency style sideboard from Davenport. I love the nice white glossy finish, the length is 84 inches, but the price is $3500! UGGH! WAAYYY out of my price range. I was hoping to stay under $750! Via

Something a bit more rustic. I do like the lines and simplicity of this piece, just not the finish. I prefer the white glossy finish of the first piece. Via

I fell in love with this sideboard by Homenature, but at $4200 it was ridiculously more than the amount I plan to spend on my entire living room! Plus it really wasn’t long enough (only 60 inches!)

I also decided to check out pieces at Neiman Marcus. I know that I cannot afford anything there, but I love to look for inspiration. This “Vinlo” Console is AMAZING…& a steal at $3,699.00 plus $450 for Delivery & Processing. YEAH, right!

I considered mirrored sideboards and chests. I am hesitant, though because I think an oversized mirrored piece may be a bit too trendy and I may get sick of something like this in a few years. I do love the look of this one. It is called the “Orleans” Mirrored Chest and for sale for $4,829.00.

This piece is crazy cool…but way too contemporary for my house. I do have an appreciation for contemporary design when it is done really well! Via Call for the price (which usually means more than a few thousand!!)

This piece is absolutely STUNNING! I fell in love with it. It was no where near the length I am hoping for but I’d love a piece like this in my future dream house. Via

X Benches

What do you think of X Benches? I often dislike trends, but this one I pretty much LOVE! I am thinking of purchasing 2 for my living room. I love the way they look next to the coffee table or pushed underneath a console table as extra seating! hmmm, i have my eye on this velvety green one, it looks so luxurious!

Chair Makeover

I’m currently working on a little makeover. I bought these chairs for my living room. They are my first furniture purchase off of eBay. Have you ever purchased something large from eBay? Most furniture sellers offer pretty affordable shipping to your nearest Greyhound station. For about $30 more I opted for the option of having the chairs delivered to my home. The convenience was worth the extra money for me. Dragging my kids to the Philadelphia Greyhound station was not worth the hassle!

Anyway, this morning I dropped the chairs off at the furniture painter. He is going to paint them white, with a glossy finish. After that I will have the reupholstery work done. I’m still debating fabrics. I am thinking something with a geometrical pattern in chartreuse or aqua blue, or even navy. I’d also like to get a cute patterned pillow to lean against the back seat. I love the idea of mixing another pattern/bright color. (orange, blue, purple??) decisions, decisions…
